J&K Athletes Shine At 38th National Games, Clinch 24 Medals

Srinagar– J&K athletes delivered an exceptional performance at the 38th National Games, held in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, securing 24 medals, including 5 gold, 6 silver and 13 bronze.

The National Games, inspired by the Olympics, brought together top athletes from 28 states, 8 Union Territories and SSCB, competing in 34 different sports disciplines. J&K’s contingent, comprising 108 athletes (87 male and 21 female), demonstrated their skills across 14 sporting events, including Wushu, Boxing, Netball, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Yoga, Cycling, Water Sports, Archery, Shooting, Taekwondo, and Wrestling.

Their participation was made possible through the support of the J&K Sports Council, which played a pivotal role in sponsoring coaching camps, equipment, technical support and ensuring the athletes had the necessary resources to compete at the highest level.

Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, congratulated the athletes on their outstanding achievements, calling it a proud moment for J&K. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure, coaching facilities and training programs.

Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the athletes and their coaches.

Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, lauded the dedication and hard work of the athletes and their coaches, attributing their success to meticulous training, discipline, and perseverance.
